The name of this blog is Pink’s Politics. The name comes from my high school nick-name “Pink” which was based on my then last name. That is the only significance of the word “pink” here and anyone who attempts to add further or political meaning to it is just plain wrong.

Just One Point as We Enter the Next Installment of The Impeachment Show

The next installment of The Impeachment Show begins Wednesday.  The continuing saga of an elite group obsessed with the fact that they lost to a man they hate, a man who is actually performing for the country and doing things that those elite have only promised for decades or simply written off as impossible.

In this episode, like the previous installments, you will be told over and over that the President is evil.  You will be told he is destroying America.  You will be told that if you support him you too are evil and if you don’t join the Impeachers then you will likely go to Hell (assuming you are still archaic enough to still believe in such foolish Biblical concepts that the elite have rejected).

The Impeachers of course follow the belief that if they simply repeat something often enough then you will believe it to be true.  They see no need for facts or evidence.  Their narrative will control, even if it has no basis in reality.

The episode will continue to show us how the Democrats’ obsession with destroying the President supersedes all else in their lives, including their job which is to represent the people, pass laws that benefit the country.  It has been a year since the President agreed to a new and better trade agreement with Mexico and Canada.  The Impeachers have still not found time to bring it before Congress for a vote.  They are obsessed instead with holding hearing after hearing designed to remove the President from office.

The Impeachers scheduled the current episode while the President will be abroad, conducting the country’s foreign affairs.  Their invitation to him to participate shows their focus is only on catching and destroying the President, for if he were to accept it would mean forgoing the business of the country, yet if he does not accept, they condemn him for that.

They are focused on one thing and one thing only.  Destroying the President because he beat them in the 2016 election and is likely to win again in 2020.  Because their sole focused goal is destruction of a man they hate, they are blind to the fact that they are destroying the country in the process.  Not only sewing discord daily among the people, but actually encouraging the disregard and ultimate destruction of our Constitution, our laws, our traditional values, and our very way of life.

So, in this episode the Impeachers will bring in selected witnesses, including professorial types who will comment on the Constitution.  Of course it is doubtful that the witnesses will profess anything that is counter to the narrative of the Democrats, despite the fact that there are many Constitutional experts and scholars who do not stand with the Impeachers and whose testimony could surely reveal the many faults in their hateful narrative game that they are playing.

The Impeachers do not seem to understand that opinion vs. opinion does not result in some sort of guilty verdict.  For that one needs hard facts.  Indeed, America is all about people being tolerant of differing opinions, debating them and the policies they reflect, and speaking their support for those policies in the voting booth.  The Impeachers do not understand that a difference of opinion or hurt feelings that such difference may cause are not grounds for removing a president who was voted into office by the people.  In their obsession to remove the President, they ignore the fact that to do so overturns the will of the people, silences them, and directly contravenes our system of government.

This installment of the Impeachment Show is no different from its predecessors – fake dossier, campaign interference, collusion with Russia, Russian agent, etcetera, etcetera.  Those were just the stage trappings.  And this installment is not about quid pro quo or bribery or coercion or campaign interference or use of office for political gain.  It is about the same old thing and one thing only – getting rid of the President so that those elites, who think they know what is good for the people and should therefore be allowed to silence the voice of the people, can take power.

For that is what the Impeachers truly want.  Power to enforce their narrative upon each and every one of us, to silence those of us who disagree.  The destruction of the President is just one step in their ultimate quest for power.  With that destruction can come the destruction of the office of president and with that the destruction of three equal branches of government while at the same time it will destroy the very government of/for/by the people which is the cornerstone of our democracy.

So, the Drama returns on Wednesday.  The Impeachers vs. America.  Watch hard as they work to convince you that mere opinion without fact must control your life – as long as it is their opinion  Watch hard as they try to implant their narrative in your brain by cunning, and repetition, and by disrespecting your individual thoughts and values.

Remember as you watch this show that this is your country, not theirs.  That is the one point around which this entire show centers.  The real question is will you cede your power and independence to the power hungry, or will you stand with the people and not let their many voices, the voices that are America, be silenced.

No, A Distasteful Personality Is Not an Impeachable Offense!

Christina Cauterucci writes today in Slate a piece entitled “Donald Trump’s Personality Is an Impeachable Offense.”  The honesty of this is not so much in her judgment about the President’s personality as it is in the fact that it reveals the truth about the unremitting attacks on this President.  That truth is that the Democrats and other Washington insiders and politicians do not like the personality of the President and, for them, that justifies any and all attempts to remove him from office, declare his presidency illegitimate, attack his family and friends, attack his supporters, and do any and all other acts that we see daily intended to in some way hurt this President and his presidency.

What Ms. Cauterucci and others do not seem to understand is that the presidency is not a popularity contest. The election is not for a prom queen or king.  It is for someone whom the people see best suited to protect America and carry out the duties of the president.  It is not about someone whom you would want for your pastor or someone you’d like to have a beer with.  It is not about whether someone has a personality that, in your opinion, is or is not distasteful .

The office of president is for one who will “faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my Ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States” (presidential oath of office, U.S. Const. Art. II, Sec. 1). The President’s duties include serving as commander in chief of the military, making treaties, appointing ambassadors and judges and other officers of the United States (U.S. Const. Art. II, Sec. 2).  He “shall take Care that the Laws be faithfully executed (U.S. Const. Art. II Sec. 3).  The Constitution says nothing about one’s personality; there is no requirement of likability or lack of distasteful (to some) characteristics.

Yet, the Democrats and other anti-Trumpers live in a world in which presidential personality seems to be the only thing that matters.  Ms. Cauterucci, based on her reading of the Mueller prosecutorial report, judges Trump as socially inept, selfish, manipulative, sometimes cruel, and pathetic.  That is her opinion based on her reading; it appears she has never actually met the President.  I suspect others may have other opinions – perhaps a tough leader, perhaps angry about false accusations, perhaps other views.  (And, one ought to recall the old adage that "If you like laws and sausages, you should never watch either one being made.")

But none of that matters because the presidency is not a cult of personality; it is that which the Democrats fail to understand.  For Ms. Cauterucci and others, a personality that they find distasteful is more than enough for impeachment.

Do they not understand how ridiculous and irrational this is?  Yet, Ms. Cauterucci’s piece, by its very focus, reveals why the Democrats and other anti-Trumpers don’t care about the many positive accomplishments of Trump’s presidency (better economy, lower unemployment, improving trade, improving international strength to name a few).  While these things would seem to be those on which we should be judging a president, not whether we like the personality he uses in getting them done, the Democrats and their supporters (often including the media) have lost all understanding of the office of president.  Their judgments are not just clouded but are completely obscured by their dislike of the President’s personality.  For them, personality alone is everything and the only thing that qualifies or disqualifies someone for office.

They have not liked Donald Trump’s personality since the beginning – he is a successful business man, not a political insider; he is brash and speaks directly rather than using their refined and often senseless political-speak; he wants action and would rather get things done than have endless meetings and studies; he has a vision of America that resonates with the American people and he is working hard to do what he said he would do if elected; he is accomplishing things that political insiders have only talked about for years, and he tweets and brags about all this.

All of this seems to have irritated the anti-Trumpers to the point that they are now living in a world far removed from the people of this country, a world where someone with a personality they find distasteful not only should not be president, but must be completely destroyed.  And destruction of our country along with that is something they see as merely some sort of necessary collateral damage.

This irrationality might be humorous if it were not so dangerous.  But this monomaniacal focus on destruction of the President to the exclusion of everything else is eating away at not just the President himself, but at the presidency, the government, and our country.

If a likable personality is a qualification for a president, then not only would many of our past and some great presidents have been excluded from holding office, it also means that in the future one’s ability to lead or to get anything done, to protect our country from both foreign and domestic threats, the ability to actually carry out the duties of the office, become unimportant and secondary.  Qualification and ability will mean nothing while likability will be the gold standard.  Yet likability does not mean that one can actually do the job.

Likability is subjective.  Of course it plays into one’s opinions about whom they support, but it is not a qualification for office.  And lack of likability is not an impeachable offense.

It is well past time that the Democrats acknowledge this and return to the real world where they perform their duties to the American people rather than act out their hatred against a personality they do not like.

In a well-written piece in The Hill titled “The Mueller report concludes it was not needed” (LINK ), Kevin Brock writes: “A cabal of politicians and bureaucrats frivolously and cynically manipulated the levers of government to further their own political greed and lust for power by trying to exploit a falsehood. It cost us over $30 million and needlessly pitted Americans against one another.”

Those of us left in the reality where there are far better things to do with our tax dollars than spend it to gratify an obsession against a disliked personality need to say “Enough!”  And if that call is not heard, then let us say it a different way – at the polls.  For if we do not end this insanity,  it will likely end our country as we know it.

The Politicization of Truth

We seem to be living in an era where one’s ideology determines what one’s Truth is.  How else can you explain the assault on the medical report issued by the doctor who examined President Trump, as well as, it should be noted, President’s Obama and Bush?  Because some so want to believe that the President is not fit for office, either physically or mentally, because that truth does not fit their reality, we have them questioning the physician as well as making their own pronouncements of the President’s ill health despite the report and despite the fact that, unlike the report’s author, they have conducted no examination whatsoever of the President.

Similarly, how can one explain that while Sen. Durbin is the only one who claims to have heard the President utter the word S***hole during a meeting, and despite the fact that at least 4 others present assert that the word was not uttered, those whose agenda the remark supports, including the main stream media, continue to take the word’s utterance as a proven fact.

Let’s consider some examples of ideology rather than truth controlling our political narrative since Mr. Trump became President Trump.  The Democrats, as well as some Republicans and others were so stunned they could not accept the election results.  Thus began a multitude of attempts to unseat President Trump from office.  Hence, despite no evidence in over a year’s time, we are still hearing about collusion between Russia and the Trump campaign as if it were truth. The digging for evidence goes on and far outside any fields with any relevance to such collusion yet the Democrats hang on, because collusion supports their ideological goals.  But, when that story failed to unseat the President, those who were and are determined to do so had to look for other “truths” that would lead to their desired result.  We have had the stories about the President’s mental health – now disproven by an examination by a competent doctor.  Nonetheless, the belief that he is mentally ill remains a truth for may whose ideology it suits.  (I hate to tell these people, but just because someone behaves in a way they don’t like, or holds views and values different from theirs, or supports policies contrary to their own, does not make someone mentally ill).  We also have the allegations that the President is a sexual predator or the story that the President is a racist.  I have yet to see any concrete proof of either.  The President, unlike some of his opponents, does not single out individuals based on their race, but tries to treat all Americans equally.  Nonetheless, those whose ideology is served by having a racist president, will see their view as “truth.”

Let’s consider how asserting that President Trump is racist serves the current Democrat ideology.  The Democrats assert their concern for Dreamers (I’m not sure they really are concerned, but appearing so is part of their political and campaign strategy).  If a deal were reached that gave some sort of permanent status to Dreamers, but also compromised in a way to give some of the other immigration demands of Trump and Republicans, Trump might actually get some good press from the Democrat’s base.  They don’t want that.  So, instead they can push Durbin’s story, say they can’t work with the President because he is a racist, and either leave the DACA situation unresolved (and blame Trump) or demand that to prove he is not racist he must sign a non-compromise bill that only gives the Democrats their demands on this issue.  This is just part of their political strategy.  And in my opinion, it is sick if not un-American.

Let’s just assume for a minute that the President did refer to Haiti as a S***hole country.  So what?  That, my friends, is not a racist statement.  And, following that statement with the comment that we should let in more Asians and people from Norway also does not support a charge of racism.  What it does support is the idea that we should look to what those seeking immigration have to bring to our country.  Maybe that idea could have been stated more eloquently, but there has never been an argument that Trump is an eloquent speaker.    Again, failure to be eloquent is not proof of racism, or mental illness, or Russian collusion, or sexual predation, or any other of the many narratives that the Democrats try to put forth as a reason to end the Trump presidency.

We now have some legislators, lead by Rep. Lewis, announcing their boycott of the State of the Union address because the president is racist.  As noted above, that is their truth, based not on fact, but on their ideology and what they simply wish were true.  In their minds it justifies their refusal to work with the president, but in the end it is simply disrespectful of the Office and of our democratic Institutions and system of government.  It is not helpful to the country or to the American people whom these legislators were elected to represent.  Instead, it is a betrayal of their constituents as they place their ideology and their lies created to support it above the good of this Country.

What I would like to see is the Democrats, along with the main stream media, be fair and honest with themselves and with the country.  Admit that while they don’t agree with Trump’s policies, that he is the duly elected president deserving of bipartisan support.  Acknowledge the many good things that are the result of the Presidents actions, most notably a more thriving economy including lowest unemployment in years for minorities, successes against ISIS and in other international issues, an end to the office of the president being a supporter of identity politics, to name a few.  I would like the Democrats to understand that being the loyal opposition does not mean fomenting hatred toward the president, but means supporting him in his efforts to do right for America, while opposing those policies with which they don’t agree.  It does not mean constant ad hominem attacks against a man whom they personally may not like.

In Communist societies, ideology regularly overcomes truth.  People are imprisoned or worse for not holding the Party’s ideology – its Truth.  That is not our tradition or our history in America, even though many Democrats would make it so.
