The name of this blog is Pink’s Politics. The name comes from my high school nick-name “Pink” which was based on my then last name. That is the only significance of the word “pink” here and anyone who attempts to add further or political meaning to it is just plain wrong.

Everything Is an Emergency – Except Freedom and Equality

Someone noted that the buzzwords of this administration are “crisis, decisive action, urgency, equity.” These are the words that are used to justify almost everything that Biden has done since his inauguration.  This crisis, this emergency mode allows this administration to impose its dictates without time for thought or proper legislative action; those dictates are always in accord with the socialist drive for equity (not to be confused with equality).

It seemed President Biden was in a race against time to sign as many executive orders as he could before putting what he called a “lid” on the day and going home.  There was an urgency to reverse every action President Trump had taken, without any thought or real consideration of whether or not it had been good for the country.  The urgency was to revoke a policy that was not Leftist.

Monday Sen. Schumer suggested that Biden declare a “climate emergency.”  "He can do many, many things under the emergency powers ... that he could do without legislation," Schumer asserted; that is, he can bypass legislative debate and use executive power to ignore the voice of the people.  Biden has already used his executive power for a number of environmental measures including rejoining the Paris Climate Agreement which many argue does little for the climate and is harmful to US interests, and has rescinded the Keystone XL pipeline permit without consideration of the tens of thousands of jobs that will be lost as a result and the fact, again, that this will do little if anything to reduce the use of non-renewable energy.

Democrats have also indicated their intent to use Reconciliation to pass Left programs.  Reconciliation provides a process to prevent the use of the filibuster and thereby allow the passage of a bill with simple majority support in the Senate.  This denies an effective voice to the minority.

Equity is a part of the flurry of administrative dictates.  These dictates further a Left agenda, but not an American sense of equality of all.  Allowing biological males to compete as women effectively denies women a fair and equal venue for competition.  Immediately ordering a lifting of the military ban on transgenders without a real study of the reasonable arguments both for and against, serves the Left buzzword of equity, but may not serve our military and hence our national security.  Biden has embraced the not only debunked but actually harmful Critical Race Theory and has chosen to allow its previously prohibited training for federal workers and contractors.  ICE agents have been ordered to free all illegal aliens in custody – no consideration or study of whether some should perhaps not be freed.

Actually, there are some real crises that Biden seems able to ignore.  Not only does he violate his own Covid mandates, but he now admits that he never had a plan (as he asserted from his campaign basement) to end the pandemic, but rather now tells us the disease will just run its course.  Meanwhile, he installs health advisors (paid by taxpayers) who will I guess give him cover as he uses the crisis of Covid to implement other Left agenda items without input from Congress or the people.

And the big crisis, the one that he now supports impeachment over, the Capitol “insurrection,” allows this administration to not only go after Trump and his supporters, but to justify their attempts to completely silence not only Trump, but all conservatives and Republicans, and virtually all who do not support this new Left regime.

Meanwhile, Biden ignores a real crisis on the West Coast in cities like Tacoma, Seattle, and Portland, where real and violent anti-America riots occur daily.  The press tries to ignore this, but the people in those cities cannot.  But apparently that is not a crisis because there is no way to make executive action against it serve the Left agenda.   Instead, Biden will keep DC militarized with razor wire around our symbols of freedom, implying there is a crisis in DC and hence he must urgently issue orders which we should blindly follow.

These are all examples of what we have:  an administration making decisions not based on real urgency or crisis but on its desire to quickly implement its Leftist regime.  These dictates come from the Oval Office without listening to the voice of the people.  They bypass the Legislature, which is intended to serve as a check on Presidential power.  The people are not only left out of this administration’s government but are also silenced when they dissent; as such, Biden’s presidency becomes far more a totalitarian government than a democracy.  That is an urgent crisis that we all should be concerned about.

Today's Miscellaneous Thoughts

Today I have just a few short comments about some of the current news.

Sports and Politics
Ms. Rapinoe and her team are outstanding soccer players.  They should be proud of their abilities.  But, when you are playing on the world stage you represent more than just yourself and your ego.  You represent your country.  That means showing respect for that country and its flag.  You don’t throw the flag on the ground to do a personal and pre-planned victory dance.  You don’t trash your country and its leader.  You save your personal and political grievances for another time.
Ms. Rapinoe’s statements against the president of the country she should be honored to represent are selfish and egocentric.  Her statements of not wanting to go to the White House upon winning, a place that is representative of our country to its citizens and to the world, is appalling and her making this about politics by suggesting she will honor invitations to Washington from Democrats shows a complete lack of understanding of what it means to represent one’s country on the world stage.  Rather, she wants to make it about herself and her political views.  Let her then become a politician rather than an athlete.
I am not saying she does not have a right or responsibility to speak her views.  But there are times and places for all speech.  When one is representing her country as an athlete in a world competition, it is not the appropriate time or place to air personal grievances.
Speaking of grievances, the victimhood she asserts about unequal pay is a bit suspect when one considers the full facts.  The women’s soccer has a union and a collective bargaining agreement which the women have negotiated separately from that of men’s soccer.  Under that agreement their salaries (like that of the men) are in large part tied to audience size.  Women’s soccer has a much smaller audience than does men’s.  Now, one can argue about why that might be so, but the point is, that is a fact to which the players have agreed to use as a defining factor in their salary.   Yes, in this country that Ms. Rapinoe loves to trash, she, a woman, had a right through her union to negotiate her contract and her pay.  So, yes, the pay is different for men and women, but not due to any discriminatory pay practices.  If more people watched women’s soccer, Ms. Rapinoe might make more money, perhaps even as much as male players.  But, then, behaving like a selfish brat is not a way to encourage a larger viewing audience.

The Mueller Re-do
So, now we learn that the Democrat Congress is planning to subpoena scads of witnesses to have them re-hash the testimony that they gave to Mr. Mueller during the 2 years of his investigation.  During that investigation they lauded Mr. Mueller for his thoroughness and competence.  That was before they saw his conclusion which was not what they had hoped – President Trump was not removed from office and did not go to jail.
So, now, they want to re-do the entire investigation.  At another huge cost to the American people.  Money that could go to far better causes, helping our citizenry or even those non-citizens whom the Democrats are so concerned about at our borders.  But no, they want to get rid of Trump.  They thought Mueller would do that; he did not.  So now they will try a re-do of the same investigation with the same witnesses, hoping beyond hope that someone will turn for them or at least say something in slightly different words so that they can accuse them of lying to Congress, and, somehow by implication find the President guilty.
I also find it interesting that these subpoenas are being issued as the president’s popularity is soaring.  Apparently, the Democrats can’t counter all the positive news of the economy, environmental improvements in things as basic as water, better standing in the world, and many others.  And of course, they are embarrassed (perhaps – if that is something that is possible for a Democrat) by their mischaracterization of the Independence Day Celebration and their all out attack on patriotism, something which many Americans found appalling.
The Democrats fear that the positive feeling in this country, in large part due to Trump’s policies, will get him re-elected.  So rather than present positive and realistic alternatives they will simply continue their witch hunt against him.

Lies for an Agenda
Apparently when the Democrats are determined to make a point, the end will justify any means, including lies.  We have AOC and her cohort making up stories about the conditions on the border.  We have the Washington Post calling out Rep. Omar for at least two lies, because her American story “is complicated.”  And, of course we have the daily half- truths and manufactured innuendos about President Trump.
This is what the Democrats do; this is how they try to gain power and win elections.  They certainly don’t look at facts, look at their constituents wants and needs, and work toward doing what is good and right for this country.  Their agenda seems to be different:  to remake this country into something it was never intended to be and in so doing to install themselves in positions of power that will control every aspect of our lives.
That is certainly not what I want, and, while couched in lies their behavior may sound good, I think that if the people were better informed (which is difficult with a biased media), then few would support the agenda of the Left.

What’s Beneath the Hair?

Times change and sometimes things that were once accepted behavior are no longer OK.   As such, I don’t think that someone should be held accountable by today’s standards for something that was considered normal, conventional, or customary at the time it occurred.  However, I do hope that someone who justifies past behavior on the basis that it was OK when done, would also review that behavior, realize that it may not have been appropriate, even if acceptable at the time, understand why, and perhaps feel some remorse for the past behavior.

This is how I am looking at the alleged, videoed, and admitted past acts of Joe Biden that seem to encroach on the personal space of a variety of women.

First, let me say that in my experience and observation over the past 70 years, smelling someone’s hair has always been something considered a bit creepy, so I’m not sure how that could ever be justified as something that was once accepted.  Personally, my reaction to the photos and videos I have seen is that his touching and encroachment have probably not been acceptable since at least the late 1950s.

But, assuming that Biden’s behavior was in some way acceptable at the time the actions were taken, his justification video today show that he does not get that there was, or even is, anything wrong with what he did or that the women might have felt uncomfortable.  He justifies it by saying politics is “hands-on” and that it is the way he “comforts” people.  He says he realizes his way is no longer accepted, that personal space rules have changed, so he will try to follow those rules, but will not change his belief in the necessity of politics being “hands-on.”

There is no recognition, let alone any apology for causing at least some of the women who suffered his “hands-on” style to be uncomfortable or to feel in some way invaded.   He simply says times have changed and he’ll do better now.   That is not an apology.  That shows no understanding of why the behavior was or is offensive.

I don’t think anyone considers Biden’s actions to be overtly sexually motivated.  But what they reveal is that he saw (and still sees) himself to be somehow the One that could comfort and save these women (the traditional “weaker sex”) when they were in a situation that he assumed was difficult or stressful for them.  That is, he saw himself as somehow superior; he saw the women as individuals who could not make it through without him.

That belief, that women needed him to get through a moment that he thought would be too tough for them belies everything he says about his belief in women’s equality.  Has his proclaimed work for women’s causes been because he believes women are his equal, or because he believes they are inferior and therefor need him to survive?  That, I believe, is the more important question that people should be asking when they discuss whether smelling hair and invading personal space should quash his run for president.

That is, it is the underlying reason for his repeated acts that is key here.  Clearly the acts are not OK now.  Maybe the invasion of a woman’s personal space was more acceptable at the time.  But the real question is why was Biden repeatedly doing this – what does it tell us about what he really thinks of women?  And, does his response telling us he’ll try to be a better boy now indicate that he in any way understands why the actions might be offensive, both on the surface and for what they say about his real belief in women’s equality?  For me, I am not seeing Joe Biden as someone who views women as his equal.
